Open ended Play - Montessori toys

 

Open-ended play is when children are allowed to explore play material without any rules or instructions. There must be no pressure or problems to solve, no expectations of a product . There is no right or wrong and no one way to play.

For example: letting children play with blocks any way they please - stack them, arrange them side by side, construct structures, knock them down, roll them, use it along with other toys like pretending they are ice cubes etc. 

Open-ended play is beneficial for children in several ways, here are a few highlights:
